Mother’s Day. A time to celebrate mom, and we get the chance to do it in one of the world’s most pristine areas.

Mother’s Day occurs as we experience the annual spring awakening. Late winter snowstorms – even the odd May snowfall – give way to the greening of the Adirondacks, budding flowers and a desire to personally rejuvenate in advance of summer.

Huddling with family, nature walks, culinary experiences and spa visits all come into play. A little cooperation from the weather and we’ll be all set.

There is no shortage of Mother’s Day brunching – a crowd pleaser for sure - with the Crowne Plaza, High Peaks Resort and the Four Diamond Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa offering plenty of options. There is a dilemma, however, when discussing a low impact walk. Is it better before or after dining? Do we work up an appetite or aid digestion and burn a few of those calories? To each their own on that one.

You can give mom a really memorable gift with one of the Mirror Lake Inn’s signature spa treatments. The highly-acclaimed spa recently completed $1 million in renovations to its sanctuaries. Or consider a trip to its accompanying salon for a manicure, pedicure or maybe a new ‘do.

Celebrating mom could also come in the form of a small family get-together, capped by a cookout. And make sure she does nothing more than sit outside with her feet up on the chaise lounge. For all she does, mom deserves it.
