Free Family Adventure: Climb the St. Regis Fire Tower

If you've ever been to the Northern Adirondacks, you know there's a long history of fire towers scattered across the area. Many have been dismantled or detoriated. A fire tower is so tall (tall enough to span the trees, of course), that often times the towers were closed simply as a safety concern.

One such fire tower is the Mountain Fire Tower in St. Regis. This particular fire tower was the product of neglect and detonation. But with the intervention of some great volunteers, it re-opened in September 2016! It's ready for 'business' and has its very own website with trail information, what to watch out for, volunteer sign-up and the views that you can see by climbing to the top.

Kiddos will love the adventure - younger ones may not want to climb up to the tippy top but when they get to the base, they'll simply be impressed by how tall the tower is. It's massive, impressive and a great thing to explore on a sunny day.

Bring some snacks, a water bottle (or two) and get out there and enjoy! And when you've accomplished the climb to the top, let me know how you did - drop a photo on the Macaroni Kid Saranac Lake / Lake Placid / Tupper Lake Facebook page
